The championship-deciding sixth and final round of the Algoa Kart & Motorcycle Clubs Regional championship takes place on Saturday, 19 November. At the time of writing, entries were looking really good, and a bumper day of karting action is expected across all classes.
The largest class on the day, with 25 entries, is the Michael Stephen Racing 4-stroke series. In the Endurance format, the Team from Northfield Engineering, comprised of Cameron Kelly and Kenzo Barnard, already has one hand on the crown. They will need to keep it neat and tidy to secure the win. Currently in second place, having had a consistent run of form, is the team from S4 Integration, with team members Saleem Norshib, Jacques Fourie and Wesley Grobler enjoying a narrow lead over Stu Davidson & Son’s driver Clinton Bezuidenhout. Team Auto Perfection, with drivers Dorian Kleyhans and Chris Dorfling, will be a team to watch as they hope to finish the season with another good performance. This format comprises two 1 hour endurance races on the day with up to 4 drivers per team sharing a kart. Each driver carries a weight ballast to ensure that all of the karts meet the minimum weight requirement at the end of the race.
In the MSR4 sprint series, comprising two twelve-lap races per championship round, the BBS Team of Pieter van Heerden and Johan Labuschagne leads the way. They are ahead of Clinton Bezuidenhout (Team Stu Davidson & Sons), with Kelly and Barnard (Northfield Engineering) a further 2 points back.
The other classes competing on the day will be the ladies and junior 4-stroke class and the 2-stroke classes of Mini Rok and Bambinos.
In the Mini Rok class, brothers Joshua and Jack Moore will be the men to beat fresh from their brilliant performances in the Rok Cup Super-Finals at the South Garda Circuit in Italy, where Jack was placed 3rd in the B-final. In the Regional championship standings, Aiden Green leads with 136 points, Joshua Moore with 123 points, Caleb Moss with 107, Jack Moore with 97, Dylan Bezuidenhout with 77, Sebastian Blignaut with 75 and Aashay Nagura with 51.
In the Bambino class, young Kyle Bezuidenhout has a substantial lead over brother Dylan Bezuidenhout with Ilsa Nagura in third.
Local karters have performed admirably in the 2022 National championships, with Joshua Coertze again bagging the title in the Rok KZ2 Class, Jack Moore claiming the Kid Rok class with Aashay Nagura finishing seventh. In the Mini Rok class, Joshua Moore was fifth, Jack Moore sixth, and Caleb Moss ninth.
The Algoa Kart & Motorcycle Club’s Celso Scribante Circuit is nestled between Victory Raceway and Rover Motorcycle Track along Victoria Drive. Entrance to the circuit on Saturday is free to the public, with the action starting at 08h00 with practice sessions for all classes. This will be followed by qualifying at 09h30, with the first race expected to get underway at 10h30.
