Motorsport season starts winding down

The 2022 motorsport season might be tapering off, but there is still plenty on offer for motorsport enthusiasts to enjoy. On Friday evening (2 December), there is a Street to Strip Drag Racing event to allow competitors to practice their skills in a safe, controlled environment on the main straight at the Aldo Scribante Race Circuit in the Coega IDZ. This will be the last chance to get in some practice before the Championship deciding Motorsport South Africa Timed Drags on the 10 December at the same venue.

The drag racing event will be followed on Sunday by a spinning event at the Scribante Skidpan alongside the main straight of the race circuit. Entrance to each event is R50.00 per person, with tickets available at the gate.

Also, on Friday, 2 December, the EP Vintage Car Club will display a range of classic cars. This occurs from 5 pm at their premises in Conyngham Street in Glendinningvale. Their theme for the evening’s display is various types of interesting automatic transmissions from back in the day. Entrance to the exhibition is free, and catering facilities will be available.

On Saturday, Algoa Kart & Motorcycle Club will host their inaugural “Coastal versus Inland Karting Challenge” for 2-stroke and 4-stroke karts in a day comprising sprint races only. With many out-of-town competitors expected to participate, this promises to be an action-packed day of action, culminating in the club’s year-end annual prize giving.

Aldo Scribante Raceway was a hive of activity this past week as Scuderia Scribante started putting in their final preparations for the upcoming final round of the SAGT Series & South Endurance Series at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town on p and 10 December. They will team up with UK-based South African superstar Jordan Pepper for the 9-Hour Endurance Race in their beautifully turned-out Lamborghini Huracan. Local superstar Michael Stephen will also be flying the Algoa Motorsport Club flag when he teams up with Izak Spies. They will be debuting their latest spec Audi R8 GT race car in the two sprint races that accompany the 9-Hour. Another team with roots in the Eastern Cape is the pairing of Tschops Sipuka and Xolile Letlaka, who team up with rising international sensation 21-year-old Stuart White in Team Into Africa. Letlaka has just brought a brand new Aston Martin GT into the country in preparation for the year-ending motor festival in the Cape. The last of the local heroes that will be making the trip down to Killarney is Xolela Njumbuxa, who is teaming up with Baphumze Rubuluza and Fikile Holomisa of Team Qhubani in a Back Draft Cobra.
