Round two of the Victory Raceway Oval Dirt Club Championship was held in perfect track and weather conditions on Saturday night.
With the PE Oval Track Raceway having re-affiliated to race under the Motorsport South Africa banner, it has been decided that the regional championship will be divided between the two clubs, with each venue hosting three rounds each of the regional championship in 2023. This move means that the loyal oval track spectators will be treated to seeing the best drivers from each club up against each other as they battle for the sought-after regional titles.
The large crowd was entertained by some of the best wheel-to-wheel racing action witnessed in a long time. In the 1660 class, there was a titanic battle upfront between Jason Drake, Tiaan Oliphant and Ruan Mostert. Still, it was Drake that pulled off one of the most spectacular overtakes seen to take overall line honours and scoop the sought-after “driver of the day award”.
Pierre van der Berg continued his excellent form in his very well setup BMW to win the Heavy Metal class, and the evergreen Pieta Victor showed off his skills to dominate the V8 American Saloon Class. In the Pinkrod class for ladies, Bianca Westraadt came out on top, as she had done in round one of the club championship.
