Moore pipped at the post in title chase

Young Gqberha motor racing ace Joshua Moore put in a strong performance at the last round of the VW Rookie Cup Interprovincial Challenge Series that took place as part of the season ending National Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola that was held at Zwartkops Raceway in Centurion over the weekend. Trailing Christopher Tait by just one point going into the final round, Moore faced a mammoth task in the series that sees all of the drivers racing in identical VW Polos. Race one saw Tait get away well from pole-position with Moore pressurizing him for the whole race in second place all the way to the flag. Race two was won by Uzhair Khan with Tait in second and Moore crossing the line in third. Tait being the overall  Rookie Cup Championship winner now has the opportunity to step up into a VW Motorsport Team backed  seat in either Astron Energy Polo Cup or the exciting MSA4 single seater class.

In the South African Touring Car Series Michael van Rooyen (Gazoo Racing Toyota) was hard pushed by Keegan Campos, with Campos taking the first race win with a lights to flag victory and looked set to take the title in his BMW 128ti. Unfortunately motorsport can be cruel at times, with just two laps to go in race two Campos suffered brake failure at high speed and slammed backwards into the tyre wall resulting in the race stoppage and the championship title going the way of van Rooyen. In the SA Touring Car SupaCup Championship Tate Bishop had already won the title at the previous round in Cape Town, so it was pride at stake for the latter positions with last year’s winner Jonathan Mogotsi claiming second with his VW Motorsport team mate Jason Loosemoore third overall.

Jonathan du Toit wrapped up the Extreme Supercars driven by Dunlop title winning three-out-of-three heats in his Lamborghini Huracan, while KC Ensor-smith took the inaugural MSA4 single-seater championship title. In the highly competitive Astron Energy VW Polo Cup Rory Atkinson emerged as the overall winner while Wayne Masters bagged his first championship win ever by wrapping up the Polo Cup Masters title.  In the Toyota Gazoo Racing Series it was Jason Coetzee that won the GR86 Rookie title, Nabil Abdool the GR Yaris Media title and Mario da Souza the GR Corolla Dealer Cup title.

On two wheels in the Sunbet ZX10 Masters championship Clinton Seller was deservedly crowned champion after once again dominating the series, with Graeme van Breda winning class B and East London hero Jayson Lamb winning class C.
