After a long break, while the damage to the track and surrounds caused by the August storms was repaired, racing resumes at the East London Grand Prix Circuit this weekend when the sixth round of the Border Modified Saloon Car and Eastern Cape Historic Pre ’80 and Pre ’90 Coastal Challenge Club Championships take place on Saturday, 12 November.

Things are tight at the top of the Eastern Cape Historic Pre ’80 and Pre ’90 Coastal Challenge Club championship, with five contenders still in line to claim the title. Class C contender Johan van der Westhuizen (Interceptor) leads the way from Mike Forsyth in his Class A Backdraft Cobra, with the Class C Fords of Graham Lessing, Gary Schultz and Carl Fantham not far behind. While the Fanthams and Forsyth look like they will miss this round, the other championship contenders should be joined by Alec Gudmanz in his Class B V8 Ford Capri and the Class D trio of Andrew Karshagen, Kyle Rose and Ryan Gudmanz in his Datsun SSS.
Last time, Doc Chaudree dominated the Modified Saloon Car races, winning all three heats in his Turbo VW Polo. He will be out to repeat that feat, but the return of Bevan Schwarz In his Alco Truck and Haulers Chev Corvette could spoil his plans, while Darron Gudmanz (Supa Value Foods Nissan Skyline) could also be in the mix. Gareth Hewett (Steel & Pipes Africa BMW E36) and RJ Green (BMW) will be joining Doc Chaudree in Class B. Others in the field include Paul Berry (BMW), Gary Schultz, Gary and Cherne Marais in their HR Ocus / GB Racing supported cars, Craig Borges (BJR Budget Kitchens Opel Kadette), Craig Czank, Duwaune Venter (Momentum Scrap Mazda MX6) and Juan Nel in his Renault.
Practice, qualifying and three races for each category will take place from 08h00 on Saturday, with the Steel & Pipe 45-minute Endurance Race rounding off the day’s proceedings.
