Red hot action at PE Oval Track Raceway

Round three of the PE Oval Track Raceway club championship took place last Saturday on an  unusually warm and windless evening with racing out of the top drawer to keep the large crowd that were in attendance thouroughly entertained.

Dion Kretzmann (515) fought hard for overall line honours in the 1600 Stock Saloon class that continues to grow and become more competitive with each round, while Quade de Lange put in a runaway performance in the Development class that had nine starters, there largest field since the covid pandemic. In the highly competitive 1660 Modified Saloon class Jason Drake was involved in a titanic battle with his sister Charne’ Schuin leading up to the final, unfortunately Schuin was forced to withdraw before the much anticipated final with engine failure, but her early performance was enough to earn her the driver of the day award.

A highlight of the night was the 2.1 Modified class with Daniel Renison making a welcome return in a new car to resume his on-track rivalry with Malcolm Els who triumphed on the night. Dawid “Baba” Grundlingh won the Hot Rod class after a hard fought tussle with Derick van der Westhuizen that ended in a photo finish in the final, while Joshua Sletcher had a relatively easy win in the Heavy Metal and Juan Roesstorff continued his domination in the V8 American Saloon class.
