Border Motorsport Modified Saloons Chairman Paul Berry is particularly enthusiastic about the upcoming event, especially following the progress made by competitors in recent months.
“I’m really looking forward to Round 7 of the Border Motorsport Championship, as I unfortunately couldn’t attend Round 6, which was our first event under the new affiliation with World of Motorsport ZA.
“The guys have really pulled out all the stops to get their cars up and running and back on the circuit. The different classes are filling up nicely, with the Historics, Modified Saloons and motorcycles showing tremendous growth, so we are really looking forward to a tremendous day’s racing on Saturday,” said Berry.

One of the highlights will undoubtedly be the welcome return of Gareth Hewitt, who makes his comeback after an extended sabbatical. Hewitt will be behind the wheel of his immaculately prepared VW Golf GTI and will be eager to make his presence felt among the front-running competitors.
He will have his work cut out, however, with the formidable BMW brigade of Mark Els, Shaun Gradwell, Darren Schultz, Paul Berry, Devesh Reddy, Tristan Naidoo and Steven Kieber all expected to provide stiff opposition.
Richard Clarke will also be hoping for a trouble-free outing in his Honda Civic Type R, after mechanical gremlins disrupted his previous race meeting. Meanwhile, Beverley Rose and Lincoln Randall will be flying the Volkswagen flag in their respective Citi and Mk1 Golf machines, adding further variety to an already competitive field.
The Historics and Classics category promises to deliver its own brand of spectacular racing, with a strong Ford contingent leading the charge. The Ford Escorts of Wayne Botha, Chris Landman, Carl and Shane Fantham, and Quinton Lessing will be looking to dominate proceedings.

They will face competition from the Cortina’s of Graham Lessing and Beverly Rose, while Andrew Karshagen brings the considerable presence of his monstrous Ford Fairlane to the mix.
Adding even more muscle and variety to the category will be Mike Forsyth in his brutal Class A V8 Cobra, Zane Schonknecht in his classic Volkswagen Beetle and Neil Hagemann behind the wheel of his Alfa Romeo GTV.
With such a diverse collection of machinery, from classic Fords and nimble Volkswagens to powerful V8 performance, the Historic and Classic races should provide plenty of spectacular action and nostalgia for motorsport enthusiasts.

There will also be plenty of excitement on two wheels, with the motorcycle competitors bringing an impressive selection of high-performance machinery to the circuit.
The Kawasaki ZX10s of Pierre le Roux and Shaqueal Ross will go head-to-head with the Suzuki GSX-Rs of Gerrie Havenga and Quinton Wucherpfennig. They will face further opposition from Ancel Jegels on his Honda CBR1000 and Alvandre Jegels on his Yamaha.
Completing the motorcycle entry is young Redd Scholtz, who will be campaigning his 600cc Kawasaki and looking to make his mark among the more experienced competitors.

With the Modified Saloons, Historic and Classic cars and motorcycles all forming part of the programme, there will be something for every motorsport enthusiast to enjoy.
The East London Grand Prix Circuit provides a fantastic setting for a day of competitive circuit racing, and with the championship reaching its seventh round, competitors will be keen to make every lap count as they look to strengthen their championship campaigns.

Spectators are encouraged to get down to the circuit early to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a full morning and afternoon of motorsport entertainment.
Gates open at 07h00, with racing scheduled to get underway at 10h00.
Entry is an affordable R50 per person at the main gate, while children under the age of 12 enjoy free admission. Food vendors will also be available on site, making it an ideal outing for the whole family.
